In our interdisciplinary program at the University of Minnesota focused on Adolescent Health we were advised to do the self assessment. Indeed it was quite a reflective process that required focus and committment. At the end I was able to assess my areas for further growth and development. I believe that it is a very helpful tool.

Additionally, the discourse of the MCH Competencies, definitions and conceptual framework really provides inspirational context to think about our role as leaders and where and how we need to hone our skills to rise to the occasions.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Office of Minority Health and Health Equity (CDC-RFA-MN11-1101) funded the Maternal and Child Health Careers/Research Inititatives for Student Enhancement-Undergraduate Program (MCHC/RISE-UP) at Kennedy Krieger Institute (KKI) to create a national consortium of Maternal and Child Health Bureau-funded training institutions to introduce undergraduate and recent baccalaureate degree students to public health careers. The overarching goal of the MCHC/RISE-UP is to promote health equity through training a diverse cadre of students. The students will participate in up to two MCH experiences: (1) clinical, community/advocacy, and/or research.

KKI and our UCEDD/LEND partners at the Center for Disabilities Sanford School of Medicine of The University of South Dakota and University of Southern California UCEDD/CA-LEND at Children's Hospital Los Angeles/California State University Los Angeles Minority Partnership Project, are using the MCH Leadership competencies (adapted) as a training tool and an evaluation measure for undergraduate students enrolled in this 10 week internship. Students will complete self-assessments pre and post-training.

We are planning our LEAH curriculum for next year and all activities are being linked to a specific MCH Leadership Competency. We find that there are some competencies that are covered in-depth and others than deserve more attention, so the trainees and faculty design activities to address those competencies that might not be addressed as often

Hello. I am writtng from my new postion as the MCH Coordinator at Denver Public Health. I am using this site as a resource for creating some kind of tool that conveys my long term vision of MCH for Denver to my co-workers. The MCH program is small here but we have the momemtum now to create a world class MCH Program for Denver and improve the lives of Denver's families. I am finding the tools here very useful.

Laura, our LEND program is using these competencies in several ways. The link to the competencies has been included in the national AUCD Trainee Handbook and we are incorporating this website into our long term trainee materials as they develop a individualized training plan with their supervisors.

I have also used this model in support of an adaptation of family leadership competencies and in the development of a model curriculum to support families in developing their own leadership skills at the self, other and wider community levels.
